Cross Keys Village - The Brethren Home Community (CKV) is currently seeking a Part-time Community Life Leader to become a part of our team and help provide our residents with the highest quality of care. As a Community Life Leader working at CKV, we will provide you with opportunities to enjoy a friendly work environment guided by Christian values.

Summary:

Provides daily, individual/group activities for Personal Care Residents in accordance with The Brethren Home Community policies, departmental procedures/protocols and Department of Public Welfare regulations. Programs should promote a sense of community, support a culture of wellness and encourage Residents to be engaged with others independently. Encourages staff involvement by offering opportunities to be involved. Assists in planning a variety of activities which provide physical, cognitive, emotional, social and spiritual opportunities. Scope of duties are of moderate complexity and the quality of work contributes to the Residents’ well-being. Responsible for establishing and maintaining excellent customer service. Cross-trained as an PCA2 to assist with Resident support, as needed.

Essential job duties and requirements are but not limited to:

  • Actively participates in the planning of the Personal Care Community Life Program. Fulfills weekly planning assignments for activities such as discussion groups, quizzes, games, crafts, and cooking sessions. Utilizes designated planning time to research and develop Community Life assignments. Provides guidance and direction to other staff by providing materials and resources for quality program implementation. Considers individual Residents’ needs and capabilities when planning Community Life opportunities.
  • Participates in care meetings, as requested, to provide information important to evaluating the status of Residents. Performs community life evaluation of Residents, upon request. Records daily activity attendance, when requested. Documents any individual activities/therapies provided and the Residents’response.
  • Become knowledgeable and utilize various therapeutic techniques as appropriate, such as: Sensory Stimulation, Validation Therapy, Reality Orientation, Remotivation Therapy, and Tactile Stimulation.Continually evaluates status of Residents. Makes recommendations to Personal Care Community Life Coordinator for adaptations in community life/program content and scheduling to better meet the changing needs of Residents. Recognize abnormal signs and symptoms which signify a physical change in condition which would require nursing intervention. Constantly be on the alert for conditions that may interfere with the safety and well-being of Residents involved in community life pursuits.
  • Cross-trained as an PCA2 to provide assistance, as needed. Maintains skills in supervising medicines, use of proper body mechanics and mechanical lift. Trained in CPR/First Aid/AED and Heimlich. Cross-trained to cover the PC Receptionist Desk, as needed.
  • Serves as an “approved driver” and resident escort to off-campus appointments, as needed..

Education/Job Experince:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent. NOTE: Personal Care regulations require proof of graduation or GED.
  • Ability to read work-related material and to follow written instructions. Must be able to communicate thoughts and ideas effectively and efficiently, both verbally and written, through the process of group leadership sessions, care meetings, family communications, lesson plan development and required documentation

Regulatory Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must complete a minimum of (12) hours of continuing education annually.

Other Requirements:

Scope of job duties requires normal courtesy when interacting with Residents, family and co-workers. Ability to transfer handicapped or wheelchair-bound Residents and to assist with evacuation of Residents in time of disaster. Current PA drivers license for transporting Residents and general shopping purposes. Ability to effectively speak in front of groups of Residents with varying capabilities. Demonstrate a genuine understanding of and sincere interest in working with the older adult. Availability to work occasional weekends, evenings and holidays as assigned.
